drones and emergency aid with defibrillators

Will firefighters soon be equipped with drones to rescue victims?

TF1 reported on the thinking behind the future firefighters. They could be equipped with drones carrying a defibrillator. This could speed up response times, particularly in large cities with heavy traffic. A nearby bistander could attempt to resuscitate the victim using the defibrillator’s instructions.

“It’s extremely easy to use. All you have to do is to attach the electrodes on the person’s body and follow the device’s instructions. The device will analyse the patient and tell you what to do.” explains the major in the report.

For the moment, these interventions are only tests. In the report, the firefighters carry out their tests with the FRED easyport plus (2,07 minutes in the video). This is a small and pocket-size defibrillator, powerfull for anyone, at anytime and anywhere.

The advantage of drones for the emergency services?

The drone’s advantage: speed. It’s free of the terrain and can travel in a straight line, whereas fire engines have to use roads and boats have to pass through locks. A drone equipped with a small defibrillator could help rescue professionals.
